My Life in Photography
My life in photography took off in 1996, that year and the following I took evening courses in the art of photography at the government school in Targa Gap, Malta.
In 1997 I joined the Malta Photographic Society, where I took all that the Society offered to further improve my knowledge. I learned a lot from the local experienced photographers many of whom are now my close friends.
I started involving myself in local competitions and very soon started to do well, winning a lot of the Society’s competitions. But most of all I am proud to have won the Society's coveted Photographer of the Year twice. In 2003 I was made an Associate of the Malta Photographic Society.
At this time I was well proficient in the traditional darkroom process and produced my own monochrome prints. Through this medium I had a number of prints exhibited in local exhibitions as well as abroad. Now I am working only digitally, having packed away all my darkroom equipment. Apart from monochrome I also shot a lot of colour slide films in which I was also successful in both local and international exhibitions.
These last four years I concentrated mostly on International competitions where I have accumulated a very high number of acceptances. This means that a number of my photographs have been printed in catalogues and/or exhibited in various countries all over the world. I also won a few international awards, namely in Australia, USA, Portugal, Italy and Romania.
In 2006 I was awarded the AFIAP (Artiste FIAP) distinction which is given to photographers who achieve a good level of local and international acceptances.
Also in 2006 I was awarded two stars by the Photographic Society of America (PSA). A star is given to member photographers who have reached a number of acceptances in International competitions.
In late June 2008 I was elected President of the Malta Photographic Society; after holding various positions on the same committee of which four years were spent in the role of Vice President.
Now photography fills my days, since I retired in January 2009; after forty three years working solely in industry.
